CREVE COEUR — Jonny Jordan says his mind goes blank.
The Chaminade junior guard doesn't think about the time left in the game. Or the situation.
He just knows by instinct that it's time to "turn it on."
"I have to be there when my team needs me," he said.
The 6-foot-2-inch guard was indeed there for the Red Devils at the most appropriate time Monday night.
Jordan pumped in 23 points and took control in the second overtime to lead Chaminade to an 82-76 win over De Smet in the Class 6 District 3 boys basketball championship game before a packed house in western Creve Coeur.
Chaminade (18-11) advanced to the quarterfinal round where it will host Fort Zumwalt North (20-9) at 8 p.m. Friday.

The Red Devils are searching for their third state championship to along with crowns in 2009 and 2016.
De Smet (25-4), which had won nine of its previous 10 games, was looking to repeat after winning the sixth state title in program history last spring in Class 5.
Jordan helped decide the instant classic with a near flawless performance in the second of two extra four-minute sessions. He sank both shots from the field and canned all four of his free throw attempts to account for half of his team's 16 points.
"He's a very reliable guy, just solid," said Chaminade junior forward Jahadi White, who also scored 23 points. "He just naturally knows the time to step up."
White also did his share of stepping up. His 3-pointer from the left wing with 12 seconds left in the first OT necessitated another grueling period.
But it was Jordan who shined the most at the right time. He managed just two points in the first half and didn't get going until the midway point of the third stanza.
"He's put in a ton of work that people just don't see," Chaminade coach Frank Bennett said. "I'm so happy he was able to put it on display tonight."
Junior Jamison White added 11 points to Chaminade's winning attack. The White brothers, along with Jordan, were able to offset a pair of incredible performances from De Smet senior guards Riley Massey and Owen Duff.
Massey poured in a game-high 29 points. Duff was right behind with 26.
"A classic game between two (Metro Catholic Conference) rivals and maybe the top two teams in the state," De Smet coach Kent Williams said. "This is what everybody expected — probably a lot more."
Jordan had the energy down the stretch when others were tired and gasping for air.
He began the second OT with a drive down the lane for a basket after just 13 seconds. Following a pair of De Smet misses, Jordan slashed down the lane again to put his team up 72-68.
Following a 3-pointer by Duff, Jordan struck again with a pair foul shots for a 74-71 cushion.
Jamison White and Jordan then combined for four foul shots to essentially put the game away.
"Great game, great environment," Bennett said. "Two really good teams that didn't want to go home."
Neither team led by more than eight points throughout the first 32 minutes.
De Smet used a 16-9 run over the final 6:11 of the first half to take a 30-22 lead into the break.
Chaminade came out on fire in the second half, scoring 22 points after that same total over the first periods. Jahadi White's 8-footer pumped the advantage to 39-36 late in the third period before the teams see-sawed over the rest of regulation.
Massey converted on a rare 4-point play to tie the contest 56-all with just over a minute left in the fourth period.
The Red Devils took a 3-point lead in the first overtime on a 3-pointer by Colin Keller. Jordan Boyd then answered for De Smet with a bomb of his own with 29 seconds left.
Chaminade managed to hunker down on defense over the first 2:44 of the second OT, forcing the hosts to miss all three shots.
"Fun to be a part of this one," said Jordan, who is the third leading scorer on the team at 11.9 per game.
The teams shared the MCC title with identical 7-1 records. They each won on their home floor.
The Red Devils played a rugged regular season schedule with contests against top tier teams from Georgia, Arizona, Washington D.C. and Illinois.
The gritty triumph Monday gives the group momentum heading into the round of 8.
"When everybody on the team makes it about winning, that's the key," Bennett said. "If we do that, we're pretty good."
