St. Louis University received a commitment from 6-4 guard Kobe Johnson, who is transferring after spending three seasons at West Virginia, he announced Sunday morning on social media.
Johnson seems to fit the description of a defensive perimeter player that coach Josh Schertz said he was seeking among the final three scholarships.
The native of Canton, Ohio, has played since his freshman year and became a starter last season for the Mountaineers.
Johnson, who is a combo guard, was considered West Virginia’s best defender. He averaged 6 points, 2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 26.4 minutes per game as a junior. He has shot just 28% from 3-point range for his career.
He has a wingspan of 6-8 and is 210 pounds.
Johnson was the Ohio Division I player of the year as selected by prep sportswriters in Ohio as a senior.
