Read what Stenger's defense attorney wrote in his sentencing memo

Former St. Louis County executive Steve Stenger could face up to 46 months in prison.
Stenger's letter was among a series filed by his lawyers Sunday along with a sentencing memo that asks for the low end of the federal sentencing guidelines of 37 to 46 months in prison. Prosecututors filed a letter that paints Stenger as a mercenary politician and vindictive bully.
"In no way should defendant’s restitution payment be considered 'payment in full' for the intangible harm he has caused through his criminal scheme," Assistant U.S. Attorney Hal Goldsmith wrote in a memo filed late Tuesday.
