Byron Watson, a retired St. Louis County Police sergeant, will fill a vacant seat on the 16-member Ferguson Commission, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced on Friday.Â
Nixon created the commission in November to respond to the social and economic conditions highlighted by months of protests following the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.Â
Watson, who worked for St. Louis County Police from 1981 to 2008, will fill the seat ²õ.Ìý
Last month, commission co-chairs Starsky Wilson and Rich McClure announced that Johnson-Javois would give up her spot as a member of the commission to serve as managing director of the commission, with an annual salary of roughly $140,000.

The Ferguson Commission is charged with issuing a report with recommendations no later than Sept. 15, 2015.
That report will focus on citizen-law enforcement interaction and relations; racial and ethnic relations; municipal government organization and the municipal court system; and disparities in areas including education, economic opportunity, housing, transportation, health care, child care, business ownership, and family and community stability.
