ST. LOUIS • McCarthy Building Companies has won a $96 million contract to renovate and expand the Gateway Arch Visitor Center and Museum, the National Park Service announced on Friday.
Construction will include a new west entrance, interior renovations, and a 44,000 square foot addition, totaling 140,000 square feet of work. The park service said the building has been designed with sustainable practices; partners will apply for LEED silver certification.
Museum exhibits will be part of a separate contract, the park service said in its release.
“Partners have been working for years to get to this point and we are excited to start construction on the new museum and visitor center experience,†said Maggie Hales, executive director of CityArchRiver 2015 Foundation.
This is in the $380 million Arch grounds renovation, funded largely by the Proposition P sales tax and private donations raised by CityArchRiver.
