ST. LOUIS â Mayor Tishaura O. Jones holds an early cash advantage in her race for reelection next year, but her chief challenger outraised her in the opening quarter.
Campaign finance reports filed this week show Jonesâ campaign committee took in $68,545 in contributions in the last three months, giving her $165,807 in cash on hand as of June 30.
Jonesâ allied political action committee, 314 Forward, added $5,021, raising cash on hand to $27,570.
But Alderwoman Cara Spencerâs campaign committee raised $80,509 in the same period, giving her $112,704 on hand eight months out from the March mayoral primary.
Spencer raised the bulk of the money â about $45,000 â on the same day as her June 4 campaign kickoff party, a well-attended bash at the Square building downtown. Spencer racked up 10 checks for $2,600 each that day, the cap on individual contributions, including one from Bob Clark, who founded builder Clayco.
