RIVERVIEW — A 10-year-old girl was shot and seriously injured shortly before noon Tuesday, authorities said.
Riverview Police Chief Tom Tumbrink said the victim was taken to St. Louis Children's Hospital, where she was in critical condition following surgery.
The incident occurred in the 400 block of Scenic Drive, he said in an email. He said she was shot in the chest area. He didn't release further details.
He said Riverview officers responded to the initial call. He said his department asked the St. Louis County police's child crimes unit to assist and it is handling the rest of the investigation. County police later said a juvenile suspect was in custody.
