Longtime was honored Friday by the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, who gave him his own "day."
Hayes, a communications professor at Webster University and an active volunteer in senior wellness programs, was lauded for more than 30 years of volunteering with social programs in the St. Louis community.
"It doesn’t matter how I look at it: As dean of the school of communications, student of media history or citizen of St. Louis, Bernie Hayes is a treasure,†deanÌýEric RothenbuhlerÌýsaid.
Hayes came to St. Louis in the mid-1960s playing soul music in the afternoons and jazz during the evening on KATZ. He still has a hand in both print and broadcast journalism, writing a column for the St. Louis American and hosting a current affairs show on KNLC (Channel 24).
