A developer is proposing a $46.4 million rejuvenation of the architecturally distinctive General American building as Laclede Group's new headquarters in downtown St. Louis.
Laclede would occupy the entire building, which would undergo a total renovation under the plan The Koman Group offered today. Koman's plan includes landscaping to visually tie the building, at 700 Market Street, to Citygarden and Ballpark Village.
Koman said it anticipates buying the building from Centaur Properties, of New York, then leasing it to Laclede. The gas utility plans move its headquarters of more than 450 workers from the Laclede Gas building, its home since 1970.
Included in Koman's plan is $8.1 million in tax-increment financing. The city TIF Commission voted today to set a public hearing on the proposal for Oct. 30.
