ST. LOUIS — Spire on Thursday announced a new program to help customers pay for overdue gas bills.
The region’s natural gas utility will credit up to $400 toward outstanding balances for Missouri customers who have lost jobs or income during the pandemic.
Customers, once enrolled, will automatically receive a $100 credit toward their past-due balance. Spire will then match as much as $300, dollar-for-dollar, as customers pay down the remaining balance.
There is no income cap for the program, but customers must complete an application and show that they’ve lost a job or income since March 1 as a direct result of the pandemic. The program runs through March 2021 or until its funds are exhausted. Spire will begin accepting applications on Nov. 9.
Spire also added an 18-month payment plan for customers impacted by the pandemic. Customers can enroll by paying 10% of their past-due balance. The company already has a 12-month payment plan.
