Complaints originating from the MAGA faithful criticizing ABC for a biased job in moderating last week’s presidential debate are just more excuses for a very flawed man running as a very flawed presidential candidate.
Most complaints involve the differential between the two candidates in the number of fact-checking rebuttals from the moderators. Here’s a suggestion for Donald Trump and his campaign staff to cut down on debate moderator interference: Don’t make outrageous statements like continuing to deny the validity of the 2020 presidential election, or downplaying the seriousness of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, or claiming doctors are committing infanticide in the name of legal abortion, or claiming pets are being eaten by legal Haitian immigrants in Ohio.
No, the reason Trump performed so poorly in the debate wasn’t because of biased moderators, it was because he was ill-prepared to compete with a more formidable candidate than he previously faced in Joe Biden. Trump is notorious for under-preparation; just read about his inability to sit through the presidential daily briefings when he was president.

It was obvious after the first 30 minutes of the debate that he was out of meaningful new information to present. So he resorted to his standby of name-calling and making more and more off-the-cuff outrageous statements. You know, the kind he makes at every one of his campaign rallies.
