Projected Blues 2024 opening day roster
These are the players expected to be on the St. Louis Blues opening day roster for the 2024 season.
Alexandre Texier
Acquired from Columbus for a 2025 fourth-round pick, Texier is coming off a year in which he had 30 points in 78 games and will bolster the Blues’ forward depth with his speed and occasional skill.
Brayden Schenn
Now entering his second season as the Blues captain, Schenn is coming off his worst offensive season in a decade, and the Blues will try to jump-start him on the wing, at least to start the season.
Radek Faksa
For the first time in his career, Faksa will wear a different jersey after playing nine seasons with the Stars. The Blues acquired him for nothing in a trade with Dallas, and he’ll help win faceoffs and kill penalties.
Alexey Toropchenko
A hard, heavy presence on the forecheck and on the penalty kill, Toropchenko remains one of the Blues’ most reliable players in the bottom six and is coming off a season in which he scored 14 goals.
Robert Thomas
Thomas was named an All-Star for the first time in his career last year, when he put up a team-high 86 points across his first full season as the team’s No. 1 center. He’ll again be asked to carry the scoring load up front.
Brandon Saad
Saad could miss the season-opening, three-game road trip due to the birth of his third child but figures to provide the same consistent scoring threat in the middle six and on the second power-play unit.
Jordan Kyrou
Kyrou endured a tumultuous season a year ago, when he got off to a slow start, got booed at home and then benched in the third period in Detroit, but he will hope for a more consistent and productive season than his 31-goal campaign in 2023-24.
Nathan Walker
Walker has been a career tweener, stuck somewhere below an NHL regular and above an AHL star, but he has made the most of his opportunity in training camp to stake a potential claim to a role on the fourth line.
Kasperi Kapenen
Jake Neighbours
Neighbours broke out last season with 27 goals, a total that was second on the Blues and helped establish the 2020 first-round pick as a legitimate top-six threat in the NHL and on the top power-play unit at the net front.
Mathieu Joseph
The Senators sent the Blues a third-round pick to rid themselves of Joseph and the remaining two seasons on his contract, but St. Louis has welcomed Joseph’s speed on the wings and will use him to spell star players on the penalty kill.
Zack Bolduc
Over the summer, Bolduc’s name was a popular option to crack the NHL lineup out of training camp for the first time in his career, and he’s followed up a strong finish in the spring with a preseason showing he's deserving of a spot in St. Louis.
Dylan Holloway
A 2020 first-round pick, the Blues snatched Holloway from Edmonton via offer sheet over the summer, hoping the quick, gritty winger can flourish with more opportunity in the St. Louis lineup.
Pavel Buchnevich
No longer the subject of trade rumors, Buchnevich locked himself into St. Louis by signing a six-year extension over the summer that will keep him in a Blues jersey through 2030-31. He will begin the season playing center instead of his usual spot on the wing.
Nick Leddy
Last season, Leddy averaged more than 22 minutes for the first time in six years as he formed a reliable if unsensational top pairing with Colton Parayko. The duo should be together to begin this season as well.
Philip Broberg
Broberg, a No. 8 overall draft pick in 2019, was the big prize in the Blues’ double offer sheet maneuver with the Oilers. A rangy, smooth-skating defenseman, Broberg will fill a top-four role with the Blues this season, though his development projects more long-term.
Ryan Suter
Suter was bought out for the second time in his career this summer, as the Stars bought him out three summers after the Wild did. He’ll turn 40 years old in January and should slot in on the Blues’ third pairing.
Scott Perunovich
This season could be one of Perunovich’s final chances to prove he belongs in the NHL after his injury-riddled and inconsistent history so far as a professional. Perunovich can help on the power play, but he’ll have to crack the lineup first.
Matthew Kessel
Kessel was a dependable force on the back end for the second half of the season after his recall in late December, and being right-handed helps him fit into the Blues’ back end a little better.
Colton Parayko
The veteran big man rebounded in a massive way last season, looking more like the top-pairing defenseman the Blues expected instead of the struggling version who played in 2022-23.
Justin Faulk
Faulk battled with an ankle injury that limited his effectiveness in the second half of the season but enters this season healthy and ready to man the top power-play unit now that Torey Krug is out for season after ankle surgery.
Pierre-Olivier Joseph
Joseph became an unrestricted free agent when Pittsburgh did not tender him a qualifying offer, and he chose to sign with the Blues and play with his brother, Mathieu. P.O. played 127 NHL games across the past two seasons with the Penguins.
Joel Hofer
Hofer had a sparkling rookie season in 2023-24, when he made 27 starts and had a .913 save percentage and a 2.65 goals against average. Hofer’s stellar introduction to the NHL gave the Blues one of the best goaltending tandems in the league.
Jordan Binnington
Binnington was one of the best goalies in the NHL last season and was a key reason the Blues remained in the Western Conference playoff picture until the final week of the season. He’ll also be looking to secure a spot as Team Canada’s starter.
