City SC is adding another player from City2 and its academy system to its roster, signing 17-year-old forward Mykhi Joyner to a Homegrown contract that goes into effect next season. Joyner has a City2 contract for the remainder of this season and the club will use one of his four callups on Wednesday night when the team plays at Seattle.
Joyner (his first name is pronounced Muh-kigh) has scored a team-high nine goals for City2 this season and also has one assist in 14 games.
Joyner’s contract runs through 2028, with a club option for 2029. He’s the fourth Homegrown player signed by the team, joining Caden Glover (who will also be on the game-day roster on Wednesday), Miguel Perez and Tyson Pearce. Homegrown players are players who played in the club’s academy system and can earn above the league minimum but still be placed on the club’s supplemental roster and not count against the salary cap.

With the MLS transfer window not opening until Thursday, City SC is low on attacking players at the moment, especially with Samuel Adeniran once again being involved in a potential move, according to the team. Last week, interim coach John Hackworth had just three attacking players on the bench (Adeniran, Glover and Hosei Kijima) and this week, with Adeniran out, he’d be down to two.
Since Joyner is on a City2 contract for the rest of this season, he can be played on game-day rosters only four times, and appear in only two MLS games (though he could also appear in two Leagues Cup matches). When the transfer window opens, City SC will add two players, midfielder Cedric Teucher and defender Jake Girdwood-Reich.
Joyner is the fifth City2 player to be called up to the first team this season, along with Michael Wentzel, John Klein, Jay Reid and Brendan McSorley. Wentzel, Klein and Reid have all been signed to first-team contracts for this season.
