President-elect Donald Trump says that two billionaires, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, will trim the federal government's budget. Neither of these wealthy men was on the ballot. Neither was elected.
Charged with trimming all that fat and waste, which the government has always had, will be a difficult task. Especially for those unaccustomed to doing that in their own businesses. ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ will be tempted to target low-hanging fruit like Social Security, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, veterans benefits and more.
We are expected to believe these two unelected billionaires will find ways to bring balance to the budget. But it will be required of them to look over the government contracts that Musk has. Might we see some cuts to those contracts?Â
Reducing the budget by cutting the fat and pork needs be done by qualified individuals with knowledge of government. Wealth is no guarantee that Musk and Ramaswamy are the people to carry out this task.
