Amendment 3, on the Nov. 5 ballot, would protect reproductive rights in Missouri. Nothing in the language of the amendment addresses transgender health care, directly or indirectly. And by no rational legal or medical stretch could it be interpreted that way.
That’s the widespread judgment of medical and legal experts recently interviewed by the Missouri Independent, among others. It’s also common sense. Put simply: No form of transgender health care in existence bestows the ability to reproduce where it didn’t exist before.

The ongoing trans-care debate is about many things, but it is emphatically not about reproduction — and thus has nothing to do with Amendment 3. Opponents who claim otherwise are misleading the public and demonstrating their own desperation.
