WASHINGTON, Mo. — A Hermann, Missouri, police officer who was injured in a fatal shooting earlier this year returned home Tuesday.
Adam Sullentrup, of Washington, has spent several months in a Colorado hospital, where he has received intensive rehabilitation therapies following a shooting that killed fellow officer Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith.

Sullentrup and Griffith were dispatched to the Casey’s General Store in Hermann in March to arrest Kenneth Lee Simpson, 34, for multiple outstanding warrants from Franklin and Warren counties . Simpson opened fire on the two officers instead, severely injuring Sullentrup , who was shot in the head and his side.
Simpson was arrested following an hourslong standoff in a Hermann home. He was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and first-degree assault.

Sullentrup, who arrived at St. Louis Lambert International Airport on Tuesday evening, received an emergency vehicle escort from the airport to his hometown of Washington.
The escort traveled along Interstate 70 to Interstate 270 and then to Interstate 44. The escort then traveled west on I-44 until Highway 100 at Villa Ridge in Franklin County and continued on Highway 100 into Washington, where dozens of well-wishers gathered to welcome Sullentrup home.
