Freeman Word, a local playwright, wrote “Live at Club Riviera,†about a local Black-owned club that attracted big crowds and acts in its day around the turn of the 20th century. It was as popular as Harlem’s Cotton Club. The play not only details the history of the club, but also shares the story of civil rights activist Jordan W. Pride Month comes to a colorful conclusion with this festival, which is now in its 40th year. More than a dozen live musical acts will entertain, with lots of food and other vendors to choose from. One area will cater to children and families, while another hosts a dance party. Special events include a military wreath ceremony (11 a.m. Saturday), a prayer service (10 a.m. Sunday) and, of course, the Grand Pride Parade (noon Sunday). By Daniel Neman

The Luminary is currently hosting the “Considering St. Louis†exhibit, which is the result of a year long research project by curatorial fellow Clera Alyse McKissic, during which she interviewed 30 St. Louis artists about what drives them and how they think about the city. Now, this film festival will feature videos from the artists in the exhibition including Cami Thomas, Catherine Dudley Rose and Damon Davis.
